Eidos, one of the world’s leading publishers and developers of video games, relied on Symetrix to design a highly effective and reliable data center to support its new development studio
Montreal, Canada – December 4, 2007: Symetrix, a leading specialist in data center infrastructure, announced today that it has completed the commissioning for EIDOS-MONTREAL’s data center in its brand new development studio located in the heart of downtown. The new “high density ready” data center, with redundant in-row cooling and scalable, fault-tolerant UPS systems, will help EIDOS-MONTREAL launch its activities with a secured and controlled environment for its critical equipment, while allowing for future growth.
“The Montreal studio is a crucial part of our global strategy to become a bigger player in the video game development and publishing”, said Stéphane D’Astous, General Manager for Eidos in Montreal. “As we began the construction of our new offices, time was a priority and we needed a partner with project management and design capabilities. Symetrix’s skillful planning and engineering expertise in data center designs helped Eidos focus on our core responsibilities with the peace-of-mind that our critical equipment would be hosted in state-of-the-art environment, while knowing it would be delivered on time.”
Eidos’ new data center represented a challenge because a large portion of the equipment was dedicated to video game development, which translated into a constantly fluctuating heat load that needed precision cooling. Symetrix designed a redundant in-row cooling solution that will cancel the heat directly at its source. With today’s ever-growing environmental concerns, this solution represents a significant improvement in energy efficiency over traditional perimeter cooling. The design also includes 2 UPS systems, one of them dedicated to the high density Voice-over-IP telecom equipment. This UPS is linked to the emergency generator, ensuring a 7 x 24 availability that was crucial for Eidos operations. Visitors will be able to see the next generation server room through a secured glass wall.
As one of the world’s leading publishers and developers of entertainment software, Eidos came to Montreal for its thriving game development community and with the idea to become a major force in global videogames publishing. “To be able to succeed, we had to find a company with extensive data center experience that was able to deliver our project on a tight schedule. Symetrix was up to the challenge and met our high expectations. Symetrix exhibited a thorough understanding of our business and IT challenges as well as an implementation know-how that comes from years of experience in data center infrastructure. Most importantly, they have helped us meet our aggressive deadline”, D’Astous added.
“EIDOS-MONTREAL understands the rewards and added-value that come from choosing a leading edge data center solution from Symetrix”, said Martine Lévesque, VP of Operations at Symetrix. “With Symetrix, companies like Eidos can leverage the unparalleled data center expertise that leads us to be known as the Canadian leader in IT infrastructure. Our constant investment in seeking technological breakthroughs and developing best practices demonstrates Symetrix’s commitment to provide the most advanced high density computing infrastructure solutions to our customers.”
