PRESS RELEASE

............................................................................................................................................................................................

SYMETRIX ALLOWS IATA (International Air Transport Association) TO IMPROVE THE RELIABILITY OF ITS OPERATIONS WITH A NEW SERVER ROOM
............................................................................................................................................................................................

IATA, the prestigious Geneva-based organization that represents and serves the worldwide air travel industry has selected Symetrix to produce its new server room in Montreal

Montreal, Canada – August 25, 2008: Symetrix, a Canadian leader in data centre design, recently completed a turnkey server room project for IATA’s offices in downtown Montreal. Symetrix’s solution included complete project management as well as procurement and installation of equipment in a high density zone using APC hardware, in-line air conditioning, fire suppression, laser detection and surveillance camera systems. With this solution, Symetrix has allowed IATA to improve its IT operations thanks to a reliable, high-performing and upgradeable data centre infrastructure.

“The air transport industry is faced with growing challenges due, among other reasons, to market globalization and heightened security needs,” explained Éric Gagnon, operations manager of the IATA server room. “Symetrix understood the IT challenges our organization faces thanks to its expertise in engineering, procurement and construction of cutting-edge data centres. Moreover, the project was completed on schedule, allowing us to return to our core activities quickly.”

The new IATA server room was a significant challenge due to the lack of space in which to install an ultra-high pressure water network (300 psi) needed for the air conditioning system. Symetrix therefore chose an APC high-density zone with a chilled water cooling system.  An in-line air conditioning system including air conditioning units, computer cabinets and electrical distribution systems (PDU), allowed the company to resolve the problem and also improve the efficiency of cooling systems and reduce the amount of energy needed to maintain servers at their optimal operating temperature.  Installation was designed to be upgradeable, providing IATA with extra capacity for future expansion projects.

“We are extremely proud to have been selected by an organization as prestigious as IATA given the strategic importance of the reliability of their computer systems,” said Martine Lévesque, vice-president of operations at Symetrix. “IATA is one of the largest air industry players in the world, accounting for 93% of international air traffic, which is why the organization needed to have a flawless computer infrastructure. We therefore offered IATA a 3-year contract for all the equipment of the new server room. The contract includes certified technician service with a 4-hour response time 24 hours a day, 7 days a week allowing us to remain attuned to our client’s needs while providing after-sales service.”
