IMPACT OF HIGH CONTAMINANT LEVELS

Computer facilities are sensitive to pollutants, both visible and invisible. Microdust isn’t captured by standard filters and penetrates into computer equipment, where it accumulates on components, raising the operating temperature and increasing the risk of :

CONTAMINANTS

Some of the most common contaminants found in server rooms are :

• Microdust spread by the air-conditioning system

DECONTAMINATION FREQUENCY

ISO standard 14644-1 (“Cleanrooms and Associated Controlled Environments”), Class 8, specifies a server room air cleanliness level of less than 3.5 million 0.5-micron articles per cubic metre of air. Hardware manufacturers and insurance companies recommend decontamination be performed by a specialized company at least once per year.

DECONTAMINATION SERVICES

[ − ]     General Decontamination of the Room

• Remove dust and particulates with HEPA filtered vacuum from all horizontal and vertical surfaces in the room, including walls and other visible surfaces such as cabinets, furniture, countertops, electrical switch buttons and other casework less than eight (8) feet in height.
  
  

[ − ]     Decontamination of the Server Room Floor Surface

• Remove dust and particulates with HEPA filtered vacuum from the floor surface and all accessible areas under hardware devices and safe cleaning of the floor surface using antistatic, lint-free cotton cloth and specialized cleaner.
  
  

[ − ]     Decontamination of the Server Room underfloor Plenum

• Remove dust and particulates with HEPA filtered vacuum from the plenum of the raised floor including cleaning of the subfloor slab, floor stringers, pedestal heads, cables, wires and large mechanical components. Perforated tiles are also cleaned to remove any accumulated dust and any possible water leak is dried with a special water vacuum and high-absorption cloths in order to eliminate all traces of humidity.
  
  

[ − ]     Decontamination of the Ceiling Plenum

• Remove dust and particulates with HEPA filtered vacuum from above the drop ceiling tiles and/or suspended cable trays located above eight (8) feet (if applicable).
  
  

[ − ]     Decontamination of Equipment Exterior and Interior

• Clean the interior of cabinets as well as the exterior and interior of IT equipment to remove dust accumulated on critical components, such as processors and fans, using ionized air blowing.
  
  

[ − ]     Subfloor Encapsulation

• Apply an epoxy coating to the concrete subfloor plenum surface to act as a vapor and dust barrier.
